Introduction
In a world that often prioritizes accumulation, the Kingdom of God operates on a different principle—selfless giving. At the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), we believe generosity is not just an act but a kingdom lifestyle modeled by Jesus Himself:
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)
Whether through tithes, offerings, or acts of kindness, giving unlocks God’s blessings, sustains the church’s mission, and transforms lives. Let’s explore what Scripture teaches about the power of generosity.
1. Biblical Foundations of Giving
God calls us to give cheerfully and sacrificially:
- Tithing (Malachi 3:10): “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse… Test Me in this,” says the Lord.
- Offerings (2 Corinthians 9:7): “God loves a cheerful giver.”
- Almsgiving (Proverbs 19:17): “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord.”
In RCCG, we honor these principles, knowing that giving is an act of worship and trust in God’s provision.
2. Why Giving Matters
A. It Blesses the Giver
- Spiritual Growth: Giving breaks greed and cultivates dependence on God (*Matthew 6:19-21*).
- Divine Multiplication: The “seed-time and harvest” principle (*Galatians 6:7-9*) means God rewards faithfulness.
B. It Advances God’s Kingdom
- Supports church projects, evangelism, and humanitarian efforts (like RCCG’s Outreaches and Welfare Programs).
- Helps the needy, fulfilling James 1:27 (“Pure religion… is to look after orphans and widows”).
C. It Defeats Selfishness
Generosity shifts our focus from “my needs” to “God’s purpose.”
3. Practical Ways to Cultivate Generosity
- Be Intentional: Budget for tithes, offerings, and charity.
- Give Beyond Money: Volunteer time, skills, or resources (e.g., food drives).
- Teach the Next Generation: Train children to give (Proverbs 22:6).
A Call to Action
This month, take a step of faith in giving:
- If you’ve never tithed, start with 10% of your income (Malachi 3:10).
- Bless someone in need (a neighbor, a church member, or a community project).
- Pray: “Lord, make me a conduit of Your blessings.”
“Give, and it will be given to you… pressed down, shaken together and running over.” (Luke 6:38)
Prayer Point:
“Father, give me a heart of generosity. Help me to trust You as I give, knowing that all I have is Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
